GAMING COMMISSION OPENS NEW OFFICE AT AGONA SWEDRU

The Gaming Commission of Ghana has officially inaugurated its new office at Agona Swedru in the Agona East Constituency, marking a significant step in expanding its regulatory presence across the country. The Member of Parliament for Agona East, Hon. Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr, commended the Gaming Commission of Ghana for opening it’s new office at Agona East. She noted that the establishment of the office would strengthen the Commission’s regulatory mandate in the area and surrounding districts.

Hon. Sawyerr also highlighted the growing concerns around gaming addiction and cautioned the youth, particularly students, to prioritise their education over gambling. She further advised parents to be mindful of their conduct, noting that children often emulate behaviours observed at home.

In his remarks, the Ag. Gaming Commissioner, Mr. Emmanuel Siisi Quainoo, described the location of the office as strategic, given Agona Swedru’s role as a key link between the Central Region, the Eastern Region, and other parts of the country.

He noted that the expansion forms part of efforts to respond to the rapid growth of the gaming industry in Ghana.

“We must grow closer to the people we serve. Let me be clear: the Commission is not against gaming. We are for safe, responsible, and lawful gaming. Our duty is to protect the youth from underage participation, safeguard vulnerable persons from addiction, and shield communities from crime and illicit activities associated with unlicensed operations,” he stated.

Mr. Quainoo further urged staff of the new office to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties, reminding them that they represent the face of the Commission.

Representing the Chief of Agona Kwansakrom, Nana Kwansa Sarpong IV, the Abusuapanyin, Mr. Yaw Ofori, called on the Commission to intensify sensitisation efforts in schools, especially on the dangers and consequences of underage gaming.

He encouraged the Commission to utilise the new office to effectively enforce regulations and strengthen oversight within the community.

The new office is expected to enhance monitoring and enforcement activities, promote responsible gaming practices, and strengthen stakeholder engagement within the Agona East District and beyond.
